32 laboratories in Kenya are the only ones approved to Conduct Covid19 tests, disagreeing with earlier reports that the testing centers are more.
Ministry of Health acting Director-General Dr. Patrick Amoth announced this on twitter after a concerned Kenyan posed the question to him.
There were concerns about which Labaroties in the county have been allowed to conduct the tests. Some laboratories in Nairobi have ceased conducting the tests.
For instance, Lang’ata Hospital Laboratory in Nairobi was closed indefinitely following allegations that it was carrying out fake COVID 19 tests.
A raid by Health officials in July at Langata hospital found the management was asking those seeking to be tested for Covid19 to pay 5500 shillings and later ferrying them in an ambulance to KEMRI for the actual test.
This is despite the hospital informing the public that there was a covid19 test was available at the facility. It emerged there was collusion between the hospital and Kemri to illegally revenue from people.
Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board (KMLTTB) chief executive officer Patrick Kisabei said Langata Hospital was lying to the public.
“We have also realized that they stock and used expired medical laboratory reagents”
