Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has asked the chairman of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Wafula Chebukati, to vacate office before an unknown wave goes for him.
Speaking from the party’s headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi, the party’s secretary-general Edwin Sifuna argued that ODM leader Raila Odinga could not be wrong on the expenditure of a referendum as he had vast experience as a participant in Kenya’s elections.
“Mr. Odinga was a victim of the incompetence of chairman Chebukati and his team in 2017, we are not going to tolerate that again” Said Sifuna adding that a process to push Chebukati and his team out of office was in the offing.
“The latest outburst By Chebukati must be condemned in the strongest terms possible” Said Ugunja member of parliament Opiyo Wandayi.
The party was reacting to a statement by IEBC that the impending referendum will cost taxpayers nearly Ksh.14 billion.
Raila termed the statement an indication that the commission needs to be overhauled, alleging that the reasoning alludes to schemes to rip off the country.
“We can prove to IEBC that elections can be conducted at 100 shillings per Kenyan” added Sifuna
