The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union now wants their doctors serving in Homabay County taken back to National government.
Speaking during a tour of the County Wednesday, KMPDU Secretary General Ouma Oluga said Health services under Governor Cyprian Awiti’s administration can only deteriorate.
“We decided to come and see for ourselves the state of health care in this county, and we really sympathize with our people. We want to state very clearly that in accordance with Article 187 of the Constitution, when one level of a government is unable to perform a function they should return that function to the other level of government.
“This Article should take effect in Homabay County,” said
KMPDU had done a similar thing in 2014 in Bomet County when 11 aggrieved doctors serving under former Governor Isaac Ruto’s regime were withdrawn back to national government.
KMPDU National Chairman Samuel Oroko has actually termed Homabay County a “hostile employer” for the healthcare givers. On his part, Nyanza region KMPDU Chairperson Kevin Osuri vowed that doctors in Homabay will never resume work until their grievances are addressed.
“We are boycotting work until that day we shall have a governor who can listen to our cries,” he said.
Homabay County Executive Committee Member for Health Professor Richard Muga however disputed the doctors’ stand reiterating that the county has the ability to employ and work conductively with her employees in Health.
